Welcome to our July newsletter, on Wednesday 21st July CCUK members and the board raised a toast in celebration of CCUK 1st Anniversary. The evening was an informal networking occasion to meet the board and for members to meet each other. There was an opportunity to raise a glass for all that has been achieved within the industry over the last eighteen months. CCUK board presented what is a cluster. Did you know CCUK is the only Cosmetic Cluster in the UK?
What exactly is a cluster, I hear you asking?
Time as it so happened evaporates very quickly as we know at virtual events. Discussion was centered around the main drivers impacting the industry. No surprise to hear 'sustainability' was top of the list, with 'innovations' being the key to address a number of challenges within the sector. How does the industry work together? CCUK see an opportunity to provide a detailed map of the sector which will fast track interactions and collaborations. Education and skills along with how to communicate who and what we are as a sector to the consumer also featured as a priority.
The webinars will continue with our next one in September but we are all really looking forward to getting back to 'in person' events next year.
Thank you to all members as without your support and passion for our industry CCUK would not be able to drive forward all the fabulous initiatives we have had in 2020/ 20201. Here is looking forward to all that is coming for 2021 and 2022.
Here is wishing you all a glorious summer, from Alastair, Gill, Jane, Lisa and Kirsty

Cosmetopack is launching a research program on container-content interactions.
CosmetoPack® Consortium - A French company is looking for a partner from Spain, Italy or UK to join a R&D European project called Cosmetopack.
The consortium brought together fifteen cosmetics players to define the toxicological risks linked to the interactions between the formulas and their packaging. Cosmetopack wishes to develop a common risk management protocol for the entire profession. -
Does recycled plastic have an impact on the formula it contains? How will the interaction between a packaging solution and a cosmetic cream evolve when it comes to reuse? These questions, Cosmetopack wants to answer.
The consortium therefore announced on June 16 that it had launched a research program with the National Metrology and Testing Laboratory (LNE). By bringing together fifteen players in the cosmetics industry, it intends to define protocols for managing toxicological risks relating to the combination of container and content.
The project is broken down into two phases:
The duration of the first one-year phase of the project has just ended, giving rise to the establishment of toxicological exposure data, modeling of material transfers covering the conditions and geometries of contact with a hierarchy of contamination scenarios.
